A key component of identifying and evaluating venture opportunities is developing and maintaining an in-depth understanding of the investment environment in the segments we are interested in. Because many of FSV’s investments originate in some way from FSI’s consulting business, investment professionals have a deep knowledge of a company’s markets, customer needs and economics, likely adoption rates and management team. FSV leverages this combined knowledge and experience-base as it assesses potential investments.
FSV’s criteria for evaluating investment opportunities include the following:
- Clearly defined market need that provides an attractive return on investment to its customer base
- Attractive market segments with large market potential
- Innovative products protected by intellectual property or other defensible barriers to competition
- Probability that the company will be able to achieve and maintain a leadership position among competitors
- Sustainable business model with a clear road to profitability
- Experience and talent of the company’s management team
- Current and potential valuation which provides for an attractive return
- Identified exit strategies
- Strong co-investors with common goals and objectives for the investment
FSV invests as a lead investor and as a co-investor, collaborating and investing with other leading venture capital firms. In addition, FSV selectively undertakes deal origination, seeking co-investors for its originated deals. Above all, FSV seeks to build strong syndicates to work with and support portfolio companies
